One morning on a public beach in Goa, India in 2011, Alexander Melnik witnessed this beautiful woman silently doing stretches and free-form yoga poses on the sand, armed with just her bikini and her hands-free music player. He quietly began filming.
Melnik was fortunate enough to capture her 20-minute sensual physical routine, which was punctuated occasionally with poses like King Pigeon, Baby Crow, and Tripod Headstand, in a performance built on equal parts inward focus and outward abandon.
From viewer comments, the woman was identified as Zap: a Russian model, Sivananda yoga teacher, and one half of performance art duo "Zap and John."
That Zap is able to disconnect from the outside world and tune into her body and mind completely in a busy, open area with countless onlookers and passersby, as shown here, is truly amazing.
Goes to show how deep and powerful the body-mind connection can be once we surrender to it—watch it and get inspired in your own yoga practice!
