In a collaboration between Russia’s Wild Yogi Magazine and Turkey’s Yoga-Rainbow Festival, this 70-minute documentary spans footage shot all over India, Russia, and Turkey from 2011 to 2013, as well as vintage reels and images from Indian national archives, tracing the origins of yoga from its very infancy to the multibillion dollar industry it has come to be today.
With the help of colleagues, writer, director, and cameraman Mikhail Baranov interviews renowned gurus and teachers of different yoga schools to explore questions such as how the discipline, practice, and teaching of yoga has evolved throughout history and which styles are still faithful to the traditional teachings in the sacred yogic texts.
Featuring conversations with Swami Ashokananda Saraswati, student of Swami Satchitananda Saraswati, Bal Mukund Singh, a student of Swami Dhirendra Brahmachari, Shri Shailendra Sharma, student of Lahiri Mahasaya, and Mark Darby and Simon Borg-Olivier, students of Shri K. Pattabhi Jois, this film offers an intimate look into yoga, from sources that have learned straight from the masters.
