How To (Literally) Get Gorgeous With Green Tea

Food | Lifestyle

As we all know, green tea is a huge source of antioxidants for our bodies and has cancer-fighting properties when consumed. It’s been accredited for everything from increasing metabolism to preventing aging. But did you know when green tea is topically applied, it also has amazing beauty benefits? The most active antioxidant in green tea is called catechin. Catechin helps regulate acne as it has anti-bacterial properties. It also rejuvenates old skin cells at the end of their life cycle, so long term use improves the elasticity of the skin. Additionally, the caffeine in green tea helps to reduce inflammation and puffiness – perfect for those sleepless nights. Here are 3 awesome ways to use green tea to get gorgeousJ

For all below recipes, try to use organic green tea when possible.

1. Misting Toner

Brew your green tea and let it cool. Once cooled, pour the green tea into a clean spray bottle. For extra benefits you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oils: tea tree is great for oily skin or lavender for added relaxation. Use as a toner daily and allow the green tea to leave your skin feeling soft, smooth and supple!

2. Eye Mask

Done with your tea? Don’t toss out the tea bags – reuse them! Packed with anti-oxidants and natural caffeine, tea bags are the budget-savvy way to make up for a sleepless night. After brewing your green tea, let the bag cool for a bit. When the bag is luke warm, place it directly on your puffy tired eyes – an instant pick-me-up! Leave on for about 5 minutes and no one will know you were ever tired J

3. Face Mask

Green tea powder is the perfect addition to any facial mask you may use. My favorite DIY recipe is adding it to a clay mask. A simple purifying DIY mask: 1 tbsp of kaolin clay, a sprinkle of green tea powder and a dash of mineral water (about ½ tbsp. but it depends on how thick you want your mask).
