How to Be Alone (VIDEO)

We may not care to admit it, but for many of us, one of our deepest, most unsettling fears is to be alone or growing old alone. Often, being by ourselves means we have no one to share our feelings, thoughts, and experiences with.

This short, old-but-gold film, shot, directed, and animated by Andrea Dorfman in 2010 for Tanya Davis’ poem “How to Be Alone,” opens our eyes to the infinite happiness we can find once we learn to be comfortable in our solitude. It reminds us that alone and lonely can be two different things, that “if you’re happy in your head, then solitude is blessed and ‘alone’ is okay.”

So watch, listen, and take heart, lonely yogi, and know that wholeness, peace, and genuine self-love comes easiest to us when we’re alone.
