There are so many amazing yoga teachers out there that it’s so easy to fall into the trap of putting them on a pedestal, thinking, “welp, that’s it. They’ve mastered ALL the poses and I just have to get to that level myself.”
What we fail to realize is that literally every. single. yogi. is always and forever a student. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been teaching yoga for 4 months or 40 years — there’s always, always something to learn and improve in your practice and teaching.
That’s exactly what yoga teacher (and student!) Sofia Xirotiri beautifully shows in this video. First you see the awe-inspiring strength and mastery of her asana practice, and how she shares her knowledge and expertise with her students. Then, in the end, you see the roles reversed and Sofia becomes the student being taught by Ashtangi extraordinaire Kino MacGregor.
It’s a beautiful, much-needed reminder that in yoga, you never stop learning or practicing. No matter where you are in your practice, never let your ego tell you you’re “above” other yogis based on their asana practice and/or yoga philosophy/lifestyle. We are all students, and we all always will be.
