The First Two Principles of Ayurveda (VIDEO)

Happiness | Lifestyle

At some point in my exploration of Ayurveda I realized something really powerful. More than a diet or form of exercise, more than a bunch of guidelines or herbal formulas, Ayurveda is a way of looking at the world… and ourselves.

It’s a big picture view of life, with YOU sitting right in the middle of it. And so it makes sense, in my mind at least, to start this adventure right inside your heart and mind, before we zoom out for a birds-eye view of the universe! So in this episode we’ll explore the building blocks of you, your bliss, and the world with the first two principles of Ayurveda.

Dive Inward

So right now we’re still hanging out on the outskirts of Ayurveda. What we’ve covered so far puts us pretty firmly on the rim of the big picture. The next step from here is to dive inward and get you more familiar with, well, yourself!

But before we do that, there’s the little matter of that homework I mentioned. Here are a few really simple ways to start applying these first couple of Ayurvedic principles in your life.

Tune Into Your Connection

Remembering that you are a part of the natural world can be as simple as taking a conscious walk outdoors in a natural setting. So go for it! Take some time to walk in the woods or on the beach or somewhere where you can feel the sun on your face and the wind in your hair.

Tune into that feeling that tells you you belong there and allow yourself to be recharged by the natural energy that surrounds you, the same energy that fuels every cell in your body. Be inspired by it!

Give Your Intuition the Floor

Our relationship with our intuition is a bit of a tug-of-war between learned logic and unexplained inspiration. Why not explore what your intuition might have to teach you by giving it some space to “speak?”

Keep a journal or notebook nearby at all times (pocket, handbag, bedside the table), and as you experience these insights, instinctive impulses, or moments of clarity, write down what you “hear” (no need to make any sense of it).

Practice giving your intuition the freedom to communicate, and in doing so you’ll open the doors to a new relationship with it and a transformed relationship with yourself!

Remember, this series is a conversation. Feel free to share your thoughts, ask questions, and let me know where you’re clear or confused. Office hours are all day everyday, so leave your questions in the comments below!
