How to Bring Self Love Into Your Life Now

Happiness | Lifestyle

There are a lot of things we juggle in our lives; relationships with our loved ones, careers, hobbies. As we go through our lives, we get busy and our priorities shift, so we often lose our focus on the truly important things — like loving and taking care of ourselves.

So if this question comes up, “Do you love yourself?” Can you truly and genuinely say yes? Can you say that how you treat and talk to yourself reflects this answer?

Self-love doesn’t just focus on what’s on the outside, but also what’s on the inside. So yes, you can definitely "treat yo' self" and get a luxurious massage or get your hair and nails done. But how about soul-uplifting things to also make you feel good inside?

This could be simple things like taking time out to meditate, do yoga, eat a good organic breakfast, or simply clean your room. These are beautiful small things that might be simple, but we don’t notice the great impact they have on us.

Here are some of the things that you can do to start bringing self love into your life today!

Enjoy What You Do

Notice yourself when you wake up in the morning and go fix your bed right away. It feels great, right? It makes you feel like you have more time to do the things you really want to do — not just the ones you have to do.

Love to knit? Go ahead and make some time for that. Read some good books, create some crafts, exercise, sweat, whatever you want to do. It's so easy in our culture to focus on making sure every moment of our day is "productive" that sometimes we lose focus on just spending time doing simple things that just make us happy.

Try New Things

If you have been wanting to try something new but just haven't found the time yet, don’t hold back. Do it today or this weekend! Explore and try new things as much as you can.

It doesn't have to be something expensive or outrageous (e.g. not everyone can go skydiving on a whim), it can be something super simple like gardening, going to a different yoga class, ordering a different thing on the menu — anything new that can cause a small shift in your perspective, go try it.

Who knows, maybe that will be the next thing that you’ll love and you'll end up learning something new about yourself in the process and loving yourself even more for it.

Appreciate Your Self

This might be one of the most important things that we can do to bring self-love into our lives. Just by simply appreciating yourself and all the beautiful qualities you have will open you up to a new sense of self.

Appreciate your hard work, accomplishments, the little things that you do for others, even life itself. See your value, your worth and how much you have to give others, and honor that within yourself.

Choose Love

There’s this beautiful saying reminding us that before you can really learn to love someone, you must first learn to love yourself.

It’s important that we love ourselves by taking care of our physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being. Only by nurturing ourselves can we have something to offer others.

Look at the Bright Side

Let's be honest. Sometimes life doesn't go according to plan and sometimes it just downright sucks. Whether life is going good or bad, there is always some lesson to be learned, and every lesson we learn brings us closer to living a more authentic and whole life.

Outlook and perspective is everything, and it's important to always look on the bright side and not let negativity weigh us down. Let your inner spotlight shine! Change your way of thinking and everything in your life will change accordingly.

Embrace EVERYTHING About You

When you start to accept who you are, what you are, where you are, your flaws and mistakes, everything about you, this will be the beginning of a true inner shift towards a new life.

There are times when we fail and succeed, make bad decisions and do great and wonderful things. What’s important is that we embrace everything life has to offer and take every opportunity to grow and learn as we can.

Let yourself be who you really are — inside and out — and embrace the perfectly imperfect you. For a little inspiration, I always look at my favorite quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

There are so many ways we can practice self love. Treat others as you would like to be treated, but also, treat yourself with the same kindness you would show a stranger or friend in need. Embrace life, learn, grow, be grateful every single day, and never forget that you are important, and you are loved!
