In our ongoing #DOYOU series, we feature remarkable humans who inspire all of us to be ourselves.
Tenacious Tiffany, as she goes by on Instagram, says “I’m here to wake up the world to a new perspective. The BIGGER picture! LIVE your life!” At 41 years young, she is one of the longest living people with Progeria (besides her own mom) and this disease hasn’t stopped her from living and loving yoga.
The Yogi Who Ages Too Fast
Progeria is a rare genetic disease that causes rapid aging in a person’s muscles and organs. When you listen to Tiffany talk, and how her friends and family describe her, you would never guess that she has dealt with many challenges and pain in her life due to progeria. That’s because Tiffany doesn’t let her condition define her.
There is no cure for progeria, so Tiffany is focused on keeping herself as healthy as possible to manage its symptoms—and yoga is a huge part of that. Her practice helps her to maintain her flexibility so that she can continue to do the things she wants to do. Moving through yoga also helps to maintain a strong immune system for Tiffany.
It’s ok to be scared, but just know: you are loved and you’re not alone.
Tiffany says, “Realizing and accepting the reality that our physical selves are finite, infinitely opens us up to a higher level of being and awareness of the universe around us. It’s ok to be scared, but just know: you are loved and you’re not alone.”
Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, Tiffany has made a wonderful life for herself. She has her own candle-making business, where she uses recycled bottles, cans, and other containers to pour in her own soy wax candles with hand-curated fragrance combos. Not only does Tiffany create beautiful, good karma products, she has also created a unique union of her candle business with her passion for wellness by offering yoga and dance classes in her shop.
“If I’m around you might get dragged out on the dance floor, and you WILL like it!”
Tiffany doesn’t waste time doing things she doesn’t love. The music and art scene in Columbus gives her life and she loves to go out and enjoy them any chance she gets. She warns, “if I’m around you might get dragged out on the dance floor, and you WILL like it!”
Tiffany, thank you for reminding us about the important things in life. Hope to meet you on the dance floor some day.
