If you live in Philadelphia, like yoga, and want something to do on July 4th with yoga and which also helps a great cause, then check out Fourth of July Freedom Flow Yoga. This donation-based class will be held near Washington Square, just a stone’s throw away from Philadelphia’s historic Independence Hall, according to Be Well Philly.
A Cause to Come Together
Led by yoga teacher and wellness blogger Keli Engleson, the class is intended to benefit cancer research; all proceeds will be donated to the Multiple Myeloma Research Fund (MMRF) to help the efforts toward finding a cure for cancer.
According to the event’s Facebook page, Engleson will be racing 140.6 miles in Ironman Lake Placid on the MMRF Team for Cures on July 26. Her goal is to raise $35,000 for the cause. Engleson writes on her website (Yogapeach.com) that she’s participating in the Ironman triathlon because one of her family members lives with multiple myeloma.
“I will race with the MMRF team for her and everyone who is faced with the challenges of MM. I will also race in memory of my dear friend who left our world on October 24, 2014. She was the one who taught me to ride hills before my first Ironman and she taught me so much more,” writes Engleson.
Come Out and Yoga
Philadelphians can help by showing their patriotism and their generosity at the all-levels yoga class, which will be held on July 4 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. and welcomes people of all ages and all skill levels (bring your own mat).
The event was originally to be held on the grass right outside Independence Hall, but due to permit issues, the location has been changed. Check the Fourth of July Freedom Flow Yoga event page on Facebook for updates and more information and celebrate the Fourth with the spirit of freedom embodied by yoga.
