We’ve been there! We know what it’s like. Suddenly you’ve stopped pulling overtime at work in favour of slipping out on time to go to yoga class. You've also swapped your tequila shot for a wheatgrass one.
The trouble is, no-one else seems to be doing it. When they were handing out enquiring minds, it seems, you were in line.
You cast your mind back to when you were a child. While everyone else was playing with Barbie dolls or pretending to be a Power Ranger, you were looking up at the night sky wondering where you came from and, why you’re here. You asked questions no one could answer.
Over time, adulthood took hold. Conditioning set in. Your vibrant imagination became dulled by quadratic equations as your head was stuffed with facts and figures. Dreams of becoming a dancer or Danger Mouse dissolved.
That was until, no matter how settled or happy you thought you were, curiosity came calling. Your best laid plans combusted and life propelled you down a different path.
No one knows why those who wake up, do. There are theories that it’s pre-programmed into our DNA, a destiny pre-chosen, a purpose waiting to be fulfilled. But when it hits, it hurts, because it whips out everything we thought was secure from right beneath our feet. Suddenly, we find ourselves clutching at the bedroom floor; awake, vulnerable and raw.
It’s scary as hell, then you realise you’re facing an inner revolution for the sake of your own evolution. Here’s how to tell if you’re going through transformation, to help you replace your sense of bewilderment with one of wonder.
1. You Become More Sensitive To The Energies Around You
Crowds are over stimulating and negative energies overwhelm you. You find yourself spending more time alone and seeking out positive environments and cheerful, open people.
2. Old Habits Or Hobbies No Longer Interest You
Self-destructive, damage-inducing behaviour goes out the window. Instead, you begin to favour things that stimulate your creativity, and work compassionately to harmonise body, mind and spirit.
3. You Sometimes Look Around And Don’t Recognise Yourself In Your Own Life
You wake up, look around, wonder how you got here and where the exit is because the life you're currently living is no longer in sync with the life you feel you should be heading toward.
4. Your Body Rejects Foods That Aren’t Healthy
Alcohol, additives, factory processed foods, things covered in pesticides, and things in packets disgust you, give you heart palpitations and make you feel nauseous.
5. You Start To Release Things That No Longer Serve You
Some things just aren’t working, no matter how much you wish they were, so you have to let them go. Your shifting priorities take you towards a higher purpose.
6. Your Relationships Change
Your inner world alters as you begin to develop more self-awareness than before. You start seeing things as they really are, which impacts the relationship you have with yourself and those around you. Superficial friendships are no longer sustainable as you seek a connection that is deeper and more meaningful.
7. Old Issues Demand To Be Resolved
Things long buried rise up until you can’t stop thinking about them, even if you thought they were all in the past — until you face them square on.
8. You Begin To Realise The Interconnectivity Of All Things
Suddenly you see that perhaps there is a grander plan and start to accept that seemingly chance occurrences are all part of a wider experience; intrinsically linked by a hidden thread, and intent on guiding you to where you need to be.
Emmerson said, "We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is on duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities."
If you feel like you’re going through transformation and waking up, remember that the most profound and powerful changes occur under pressure. And the challenges you're facing are all presenting the opportunity for growth.
