This UK Gym is Offering Napping Classes and They Sound Glorious

Happiness | Lifestyle

A room full of mattresses, pillows, and blankets might be the last thing you’d expect to see in a fitness class—unless you’re a member of the UK fitness club that offers a class they call “Napercise,” that is.

Napercise is exactly what it sounds like: a fitness class devoted to taking a nap. If you've ever wished you could take a nap instead of going to the gym, then this class is a your dream come true. If Napercise catches on worldwide—which we hope it will—then pretty soon, you might be able to do both!

How Does It Work?

The aim of David Lloyd Clubs’ Napercise class is to “reinvigorate the mind, improve moods, and even burn the odd calorie.” The session begins with 15 minutes of stretching to ease tension, followed by 45 minutes of uninterrupted sleep.

Each napper is provided with a bed and an eye-mask to keep out any light. What sets Napercise apart from any ordinary nap is the room's carefully controlled environment, which is kept completely silent and at the perfect temperature for sleep.

You might be wondering, how does 45 minutes of nap time qualify as a fitness class? Sure, this class won’t burn calories, but since sleep is a key element of overall wellness, it still counts as fitness.

With our 21st century lives full of hectic work schedules and too much screen time, as many as 1 in 3 of us don’t get enough sleep, which increases our risk of chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and depression. Naps can’t replace a full night’s sleep, but they can reduce stress and improve focus (and of course they feel amazing, too).

While Napercise is only offered at David Lloyd Clubs, where the classes have completely filled up, with any luck, this trend will soon be available to exhausted adults everywhere!  Would you sign up for napping class at your gym? Let us know what you think of this new trend!
