There’s a new trend in the fitness world. Some women are deciding to undergo a labiaplasty to avoid camel toe while wearing yoga pants.
Plastic surgeons saw a 49 percent rise in the number of labiaplasties in just one year, from 2013 to 2014.
What is a Labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is essentially plastic surgery performed on the labia, or the “lips” surrounding the vagina. It can either be a reduction in size, or a change in shape. Usually, a labiaplasty is performed to make the labia smaller, or to make them more symmetrical.
Getting a labiaplasty can cost anywhere between $5,000 and $7,500, is done with local anesthesia, and takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Recovery time is generally three days.
The plastic surgeons that perform these procedures, like Dr. Jennifer Walden, say that the growing number of labiaplasties is due to the growing popularity of pubic hair removal, the accessibility of porn online, and societal pressure to look perfect in every way.
Looking Good in Workout Clothes
Some women feel particularly self-conscious about their crotches while wearing workout clothes such as tight yoga pants, so they opt for this surgery.
One surgeon, Dr. Richard Swift, said one of his patients wanted a labiaplasty because she felt self-conscious and “exposed” during her Pilates class. So much so, that she felt uncomfortable doing certain moves.
Consulting a plastic surgeon to perform surgery on your nether-regions is a BIG step. It involves a lot of time, effort, and money, and you need to consider how you would feel with the end result.
