Every now and then I get stopped. I read something. I hear something. Then, almost instantaneously I feel seen. I consider this a great offering. Because, in my experience, feeling seen is the most comforting, healing balm we can offer ourselves.
Below are five quotes that helped me feel seen and offer myself a compassionate: ‘Yes. I’ve been there too…’ I hope they bring you some comfort too!
“If we want to be able to move through the difficult disappointments, the hurt feelings, and the heartbreaks that are inevitable in a fully lived life, we can’t equate defeat with being unworthy of love, belonging and joy. If we do, we’ll never show up and try again.” Brene Brown
“Your heart works for you, but do you work for your heart?” Yogi Bhajan
“Life, if you keep chasing it so hard, will drive you to death. Time – when pursued like a bandit – will behave like one, always remaining one county or one room ahead of you, changing its name and hair color to elude you, slipping out the back door of the motel just as you're banging through the lobby with your newest search warrant, leaving only a burning cigarette in the ashtray to taunt you. At some point you have to stop because it won't. You have to admit that you can't catch it. That you're not supposed to catch it. At some point, you gotta let go and sit still and allow contentment to come to you.” Elizabeth Gilbert
“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.” Pema Chodron
“Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.” Dr. Seuss
